I had one on my 97. It's really not a good idea since it disables the coded driveaway protection. Most shops that would install it for you would just take the chip out of your extra key and mount it inside the dash.
it depends on the alarm if it works on manual or not, not many alarm companies try and deal with it though. i have a compustar remote start alarm in my car and it senses when im in gear or not, in fact in order to set the remote start you have to first have the car running, take the car out of gear, remove the foot brake, then pull the e-brake, in that order, if you do not the remote start won't work if you try it.
