Problem with Catalytic Converter 98 740i - Help!

Hello All,
I have a 1998 BMW 740i and it only has 75K miles and is in overall great shape. There was a noise coming from the passenger of my car (noticeable when car was moving <5 mph, driving in garage ect). The dealer indicated the Catalytic Converter needed replacing at a cost of 5800.00 (!!). I have checked around and received some advice on another forum that the best option would be an aftermarket one. Some sites indicated the Magnaflow model was best with prices under 100.00.

I am not 100% clear re: parts I need for some web sites sell left and right converters and even 'eastern' ones.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I got one from a breakers, 4 years ago off a car that had done 122,000 and its still going fine another 40,000 later.

I have a 1998 740iL as well with around 76,000 miles. My quote was 4000 dollars! I also found the left and right convertors. Did you ever resolve this issue and if so what did you do and how much did it cost.

LOS is an unknown quantity at this point
Donald, go with the magnaflo or visit a small muffler shop and ask for advise.
I was quoted $600 to replace both of cats on my 840CI parts and labor.
