I have recently bought a beautiful example of a V8 730i 1993 model with everything working just as it should, that is except for the waterpump where the bearings have gone and the fan is all wobbly and it loses water out the spindle. I am quite capable of doing this so set about it today armed with a new pump to fit. despite a few awkwardly located 10mm bolts (and god knows how I am going to get them back in) I succeded in getting the offending pump off; this is where I hope something bad has not happened.
When I was pulling the pump forward to remove it from two metal pipes that appreared to come out of the space under the air intake stuff, the larger of the two pipes detached itself from the other end. from what I can gather it seems to friction fit itself into a hole with a rubber seal. I think I have relocated it and it seems quite well seated and isn't wobbly but how can I tell???? I cannot see it because of all the intake stuff. has anyone experience of this? and can give me some good news
Wish you would have asked how to remove first, but never mind, if you have relocated it as you say all will be fine, put it all back together, if it hasn't relocated correctly you will soon know and have to remove the intake manifold to do it properly, make sure when you put the new pump on you relocate the front ones correctly.....fingers crossed

I stepped in a plate of Pasta the other day - now I have to worry about my Carbonara footprint!
I read an article by someone on another site which was how I got to where I did. Unfortunately, the article neglected to mention these pipes. I shall assemble the water pump this morning and as you say "fingers crossed" hopefully it should be ok. If not then off with the intake stuff
Well well well..... it seems to have gone OK...Filled up the cooling system with nice clean water (please tell me if I need to use some special stuff or will good old H2O with some antifreeze do?). I had a bit of a struggle with the bolt behind the crankshaft pulley but found that tying a piece of string to the bolt and dangling it combined with a long screwdriver seemed to make it very easy.
