Noisy Turbo/Diesel clatter on 118d SE 3dr (o8 Reg)
I have had my 118d SE 3DR ,just coming up for a year now. It has done approx. 18,000 miles. Over the last couple of months, i have noticed that the engine becomes noisier than usual (Diesel Clatter/whiring noise) when it is labouring at approx 2,500-3000RPM (i.e: like when going around a roundabout).
Has anyone else experienced this, as i have had the local BMW dealer look at it & they say it is fine.
I was wondering if it may be the Turbo, as looking at reviews on the same engine when straped into the 3 Series, it has been acknowledged that this can be a problem.
It Has Just Had Its First Oil Service About 2 Weeks Ago, But It Was Doing It Before That. I Thought Like Yourself That It May Go Away After This But It Hasn't.
It Is More Noticable (louder) When Cold, But Is Still There When Warmed Up & In The Rev Band I Mentioned Earlier. It's More Likely To Occur In 2nd & 3rd Gear As Well.
Personally, I think the oil should be changed a bit more often than the dealer may say. Other than that, would you have a chance to compare your car to another 118d and see how it sounds?
Lol, the technician will just tell you to dish out a load of money at the the dealership. Don't do that. There is a slight chance that the turbo is already caked w/ dried oil. Are you using synthetic oil?
