I recently purchased a 95 740iL from a stealership for around 10,500. The car is immaculate, well cared for, and had been turned in by two retirees from the east coast, on a new lexus 4 runner.
Ive spent the last couple of days going through the cars functions to make sure that everything is working, and it appears they all are- with the exception of the cup holder (previously detached face now stuck on by cars detailer) and one very important safety function- the reverse lockout on the selector.
I suspect that the reverse lockout is something simple like a small broken plastic detent, but I would appreciate to know from anyone else whom may have had dealings with this same issue or is familiar with fixing this area of the car.
One more question, reguarding the sport drive mode. The manual was unclear to me how to enter this option. my interpretation of the instructions is to leave the switch on Adaptive, and place the selector to 4(?) but then the manual mentions a dash button as well. if anyone can explain the process in really basic english , I would be appreciative- Im just being cautious about toying with anything on having to do with the selector switch knowing that the "R" lockout is not working.
