I would say the transmission got fried when the coolant leak happened and he drove it to be fixed as there are two lines from the box to the rad which cool the fluid. If he drove it home from the sale and all was fine there is no reason for the box to suddenly pack up, when they do they dont go from excellent to nothing, they normally jerk or slip....does it judder or make any attempt at going forward at say 3000-4000 rpm?, It maybe the EGS but only diagnostics will let you know this, if there is no response from the EGS the its fried...have you checked all your fuses including the ones under the rear seat? I presume we are talking e32 here?
