New BMW owner.

Hello! I am the owner of a new (to me) '99 740iL. Managed to pick it up at a local auction for about $2500.00 with about 150K on it. The car is not currently running (of course) and the listing for the car originally stated that the reason that it was non-running was because of a clogged oil filter? I dont even know if that's feasible BUT, this is my first learning experience with these cars. So basically Im on here to ask the experts' opinions on this?

First off - Welcome to teh Werkz!

Your problem has several wrinkles. First off, you said the car isn't running - so is it a pusher? And if so, where is the car now? Can you inexpensively get it to a dealer or a good local mechanic to just take a took at it? I would be a bit nervous if indeed the engine was oil starved as that could be a potentially very bad thing (engine could be seized and garbage, and then you bought $2500 worth of parts... !)

Anyway - you need to get things looked at before and doom and gloom or celebreating goes on. Get a fix on the sitch and report back here.

Another thoght - I don't know the condition of the rest of the car but did you check the Kelly Blue Book value with that condition and milage to get a fix on approximate value? A free and good idea on the web.

Hope things work out. The gearheads here may have some more detailed tech advice. RM

That's a hell of a deal on a 740 if the rest of the car is in good condition ... even if it means buying a brand new engine from BMW.
