New 745 Owner needs help urgently! - BMW Forum

i am having problems with my 745 iL, I was told it needs valve cover gaskets, oxygen sensors and an exhaust system.

I was hoping if i describe my problem, you all could confirm what i need.

the car struggles to start. but it does sometimes.

when the car is running, it has very little power and struggles, it wouldnt even make it up a hill the other night.

it sputters and has flat spots when you push the accelerator.

we've pulled the spark plugs and found them coverd in oil. not completely, but it was appearent.

id greatly appriceate it if you all could give me some advice!

deffinatly apparent it needs valve cover gaskets if there is obvious oil on the spark plugs, if oil has been running thru your car long it may need O2 sensors, the exhaust system if the cats are plugged it could explain the lack of power.

A bad MAF will give you the symptom you describe. I would get her scanned and go from there.

we've susspected that also, my dad sprayed carb cleaner(berryman's to be exact) and it got a little better, but it still ran like crap.

My MAF isasu was with a 1988 750 (two MAF) and one went south (off and on). I had her coded and one MAF showed up as bad, I picked up two from a salvage yard and all is well. You are rught, if the MAF goes away and the car goes limp mode it is like trying to haul the anchor from a aircraft carrier down the road.

Exactly what im experiencing! But sometimes the car refuses to start.

You seriously need to have the cars memory read out to see what codes have been stored...You may not realize how "smart" the new 7series is....oh and just throwing this out there don't attempt to clean the MAF (it may get better for a short amount of time but the cleaner will actually kill the MAF)

94 is considdered new? I can pull codes and this car will tell me whats wrong?

Sorry if i seem a little car illeterate, im used to Hondas and Toyota's, where i have to count the number of check engine lights :lol:

ok, i just pulled codes, i got 1222, Lambda Control 1... what is that? I researched that and I got the o2 sensor, and another site said it was a vaccum leak, can any one fill me in??

EDIT: I didnt realize OB2 still has you count CELs

its probibly an o2 sensor because of that oil thats been burning... id guess that the valve cover gaskets are the right answer to your problems... and new exhaust? maybe just a new cat...

Yeah, most frequently when one refers to a 745 it is a new E65 or E66...seeing what it ACTUALLY and the codes I still stand by my original diag that you need to do the Valve Cover Gaskets (to stop the oil burn), the Spark Plugs, the O2 sensors for sure and new Cat's would be a good bet.

Wow, i forgot to mention its a 94. Now i feel stupid! :lol:
