Need new engine. - BMW Forum

My poor 99 apparently commited suicide when the timing chain tensioner failed. The shop has found metal bits in the oil pan.

The car only has 85k on it and is otherwise just fine. So....

I'm thinking about getting a used engine from Bavarian Auto Recycling. I see lots of different viewpoints on this place.
Has anyone here ever purchased a used engine from them? They supposedly have a 2 year warranty but what kinda bugs me is they won't tell you how many miles are on the engines they sell. That seems kinds odd plus I don't want one with 140k or something.

^ ebay normally has some pretty nice engines on there btw what model is it 528? 530? 525? 540? M5?

search the net and other forums. anything from junk engines, no credits, no core refunds, not allowing refunds on junk engines to stealing customers credit cards and beyond.

oh and a 99 740 has a M62Tu engine. they arnt cheap sir.

Have a blown headgasket on my 1999 740
People recommend not to fix it because it was overheated.

Anyone find an engine please let me know.

I'm in California but willing to work with shipping

did the plastic melt in the valley over the valley pan?

The plastic looks good... I;m still trying to rent a garage and take the heads off.. if the heads are not warped, I will just replace the head gasket...

But if i find an engine at a resonable price, i'll buy it and sell mine for parts

Does it make sense ?

Thanks to all who have tried to help and/or offer suggestions. I have found a shop I trust that can get a used engine at a reasonable price. Can't wait to get her back on the road!
