Question Metric tires

I recently ran across a 1986 733I that needs tires. The tire store said they were metric and very expensive. Does anyone know if they made standard wheels and tires that will fit? A nice used set out of a junkyard would be good as the body is not in great shape but runs ok. Does anyone have any tips on this issue?

the metric tires are going to be michelin TRX tires. i think they go for about $150 to $200 a tire for 20 year old tire technology. The only thing you can do is find a set of cheap 14'' bottlecaps so you dont get a set TRX's. you should be able to find a set of 14s with tires for under $150 id think, they arent desirable at all, even with tires on them.

So it sounds like the 14s will fit? for a 20yr old clunker this may be a good way to go
Thanks for the reply...by the way it is actually a 735......Small tire for such a big car

Yea, i had an 83 733i with a 5 spd and lots of other go fast goodies. It had a set of 15's and looked great! With the car being so heavy, its nice to have a taller sidewall for a comfy ride, but nothing wrong with getting a wider tire. The bottlecap 14s would be the cheapest way to go. You would be fine getting any wheel/tire combo that fits on an E28 5er or E24 6er. Some of those cars had some nice 15s and people are selling some of their 16s cause of upgrading to 17s or more.

Will post pic of my old 7...

Here is a pic as promised....

It had lowering springs, bilsteins, cam, headers, exhaust, short shift and some other stuff. Great car...i would suggest keeping urs and having fun with it! Those M30 motors are awesome! Do a 5spd swap though...youll be happy if you do.
