Hi, I currently own a 96 318i, but I was thinking about buying a 7 series. I'm hoping that you could tell me your personal experience with them. Good or bad. I was thinking between the years of 91-97. Also what are some of the best upgrades to get under the hood. I would also like to know what to look out for. Thanxs
i did a suspension mod on an 740il,w/sports suspension, thats one of the differences with the 740 and 740il,,... the shocks are different...
but anyway, overall, i don't like the 740 much, i would go with a 540 or m3 or m5, i dunno, just my personal opinion... but if u insist, the go for the 740il..., next time ur in the car, watch what happens to the mirrors when u shift from park to reverse, its kind of cool....
good luck...
laters,
eric
If you wish a "7" series, look for a good, clean 735i (not il). These have great six cylinder engines, reasonble fuel economy, and lots of room. I did not suggewst the il as it has hydraulic shocks and they are pricey to replace. Again, as close to a 1994 as possible.
I own a '91 735iL and it has impressed me more than any other BMW i've ever driven (*note* that is because I expected every M i've driven to be amazing ).
Mine currently has >200k miles on the orignal motor and it's running perfectly.
The car is a tad on the overweight side but is exceptionally well balanced and can handle better than most cars you'd expect to blow it off the road.
My only suggestions in looking are the obvious: Lower miles the better, Smooth, well running engine and tranny, and properly functioning electronics.
