Light on gear shift on after 16hrs

The light on my gear shift is not turning off and my the car is slow to turn over (even after 45 min of the car being off). I had read about the 15 min delay for the electrical system, but the light on the gear shift was still on when I got up this morning (after 16hrs of the car being off and parked). Is this an indicator of a larger electrical problem? This is a 740i that is 10 yrs old with only 70k miles; the inspection is due.

My light goes off after about 15 - 16 minutes, so yours staying on may be an indcation that something is wrong, but I don't really have any suggestions as to what it would be.

Maybe start by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes to let everything restart cleanly and see if that makes any difference. Also check that the trunk light is going off when the lid is closed.
