Worst thing you can do to a car is put a bra on it. The movement by the wind will destroy the paint. Maybe you own a paint shop and do not mind repainting the front.

what would you suggest to keep the cars paint from getting chipped up from road gravel and such.... it won't stay on its just for the road
I believe 3m makes a clear protective film bra you could look into.
Many new cars are using the clear plastic coat that is permanent. The Escalade comes with the film and any car dealer can tell you where to get it done.
I did a road trip to my parent's place (~1200km round trip) last weekend, we encountered a bit of a locust plague in both directions, all I had to protect the cooling system was some fibreglass fly screen. It actually blended in quite well with the dark color of the car, and did save the radiator from being totally clogged with mashed hoppers.
So I feel your concern about protecting your paintwork. Enjoy your trip whatever you end up doing.

Wow, that's quite a collection of hoppers you have there! with a good net stuck on the top of that thing, you might be able to make millions selling us grasshoppers here in the U.S. for pet food! Just joking, but still it looks like it was quite an adventure.
