Hi,

I am new here and just bought a 2002 745i. From manual, it says the following 2 very usful functions "can be configured", but doesn't say how.
I checked the entire iDrive and can't find them. Anyone know how?

- Enable the function to auto lock all dorrs when in drive mode.
- Enable the function to auto tilt the steering wheel up when remove the key to
get more space to get out the car.

Thanks.

Both of those need a trip to the dealer because BMW, in their infinite wisdom, do not trust lowly owners with the right to configure our own vehicles. They have a software package that only the service or sales people at a dealership are allowed to own. Id sure love to get a copy!!! Then I would be in charge of the vehicle I paid so much to get.

Now my second mug of coffee has kicked in: You can address the column retract partially by using the key memory. The dealer disabled our column retract (when they upgraded the software) in BMW's attempt to "cure" the column adjust motor failures. I found that if I put my column to the fully retracted position and set the key/seat memory then it would at least retract when I hit the remote to open the doors. This was a help for me because my wife (who normally drives the X5) has the seat waaaay forward!
Best I can offer unless your dealer is willing to ignore the BMW directives about available settings. We also lost the self locking (on one key but not the other) during the software upgrade. Something else they will not change.

Hi Zulu95,

Thanks a lot for your info. I will contact my local dealer to try whether they willing to enable those 2 features for me. I really like those 2 features. If you find teh S/W to be able to enable them ourselves, pls let me know.

Thanks again.

ONe more thing. How about the daytime running light? My 745i doesn't have teh lights on when I drive. Is it another thing need deler to enable, or 2002 745i has no daytime running light?

Those are dealer select also. If you go to X5World.com they have the form for selecting all the options to turn on or off. I took this to my dealer and they told me it was for the 7 Series and then provided a 3 option only form for me to sign. I know this is pure baloney as others have taken the multi-option form to other dealers and had these options enabled as required. The only one that seems to be withdrawn is the column auto retract.
GL
Cheers.

On the X5 you get it to the MPG display and hold the button in for 2+ seconds. On some it may need you to hold the "extra" button on the dash. It should tell you in your handbook.
Cheers.

I had some input for you..I also have a 2002 745LI And I just had the dealer turn the auto lock on for me. It cost about 40 bucks for them to do it but they did it and it works. BTW its about the only things that works on that car but thats a whole other story.
