Question hood opener lever

Hi,I've recently purchased a 1988 735i with a few problems. One is I've had to buy the pieces to open the hood but I can't figure out how to put it together. Where does the cable end hook in and how does the plastic lever hook up to it all? Am I missing a piece for the end of it? The next problem is the top right stepper motor is just laying there disconnected. How far do I have to go to put it back in or can I just put it in from the front? Thanks, George.

Red face

easiest way for you:

go to a local BMW dealer - parts department and ask for an exploded view of the hood mechanism. Just tell them your problem and i am sure they'll be more than willing to help. They do not charge you for that service :-)

re:stepper motor - do u mean the cabin blower motor?

Thats where I ordered the mechanism from. In the picture, I think there is a clip or something at the end of the cable that I didn't receive.

there should be a slot in the plastic lever, or a clip that will lock the cable end in place. I'm sure you can always go back if you think something is missing ;-)

About the stepper motor, I think there are about 3 to 7 of them and they control the various vents.

Bear is an unknown quantity at this point
Body Parts

Go to realoem.com and look at the section on body and hood, there is a good picture of the hood cable mechanism as well as parts involved. I believe there are 9 stepper (air distribution ) motors in your car and there have been problems with the mounts breaking, a new mount came out years ago but many owners just use JB weld or fiberglass repair to fashion new mounts. Go to Johan & Sean's E32 Page and look at the center vent section.
