The button is at the end of the stalk, I don't want to disappoint you but there is no such thing as an M7 on the planet, they never made one, what you have is the ///M steering wheel etc. and maybe you have ///M parallel wheels.

dude...i never said M7. there is a difference between these and the regular 7. the gear ratio or something is different and tht makes it get worse gas mileage also than the regular 7 series.

sorry bout that...
well here it is the last seven characters: DN89428
lemme know if you want to know the whole vin.
but i was reading somewhere about it and it said that its got like 2mpg less in the city and highway.
The only E38's that use a different box are 728's 730's and the 750's, and of course the 760 Alpina.
Anyway back to your headlight washers, did you get them to work???
As for the MPG maybe yours hasnt had the gearbox software update at BMW dealership, maybe thats what you have read somewhere as there were some software problems and BMW did a recall for an update but not everybody took advantage!.......

heyy
do you have an e38?? i did not find any button on the stalk. stalk being the stick thing that sticks out on the side of the steering wheel. but they did work when i sprayed the windshield for a while with the headlights on.
is there any other way of doing it?
also...i figured out that i cannot jumpstart my 01 e38 from the positive terminal they have up front. i had to do it on the battery in the back...yes i played with the lights and washers for pretty long and the battery died.
well....read these links it mentions about the drive ratio thing being different making it faster and....
Ah! firstly yes agreed 'Final drive ratio' is higher in the 'Sport' version........ but this is obtained from the differential in the middle of the rear axle, not the box.
To jump start from under the hood you have the + on + under the cap and the - on the galvanised nut on top of the suspension tower.
Headlight cleaning:
If the headlights are 'ON',they are automatically cleaned as well on each fifth occasion that the windscreen wiper or intensive cleaning system are operated.
The button at the end of the stalk is intensive wash programme, served by the other wash container under the hood.
