GOLD engine????

I recently picked this car up and saw that the motor was gold. I thought the previous owner just favored this pimpish color and covered EVERYTHING metal in it until a buddy of mine said that it may be oil residue. DUNNO?? Is this Possible?? Has anyone seen this before??

The M62 V8 has a gold finish on the rocker covers, I am not sure if the V12 engine is the same or if you are referring to something different..

It could be from oil, I know on my m42 that near the oil fill location there has been some spillage and the area looks more gold in color.
