drivetrain swap dilemma M60 3.0 flywheel to 4.0 litre

can the trans. bellhousing and flywheel interchange between the two 3.0 and 4.0 M60 engines? before I make another costly mistake

As they both use the same block then why not... Your issue might be the actual gear-ratios vs diff-ratio...
Having said this do a search using BMW M60, click the wikipedia listing and pay particular interest in this line...
"The M60 was offered in two sizes: the 3.0 L M60B30 and the 4.0 L M60B40. The two had very similar design, but neither block, heads, nor crankshaft were interchangeable."

thanks, I see now the engine is internally balanced so swapping flywheels should work. I started pulling the trans today and the last bolt to loosen was ground down [starter motor] I guess they junked the car just for a stripped hex head. I`m drilling it out and stoked to be rid of that automatic
