Dme...cas...wtf :-0

Hello and thanks for having me. My friend bought a 2002 745I that had a small engine fire. Somewhere in the process of towing and storage. The DME went missing. I tracked down a Dme for him, but we didnt know enough to buy the matching CAS for it. The CAS for the DME we purchased is apparently not available. If anyone could offer input as to how this situation can be approached
Up to and including removing the eeprom from the CAS or DME and having it read. Does the DME not have a learn Process ? What happens if you replace a faulty CAS ? Can the CAS info be requested from BMW ? Thanks in advance for your input.
