Although the brakes are equipped with a brake warning pad system, the system only mintors one wheel per axle. There can be slight variations in brake pad wear at each wheel, so brake pad thickness should be checked whenever the wheels are off or brake work is being done.

The brake caliper should be unbolted from the suspension strut to properly inspect the brake pads and the rotors.

Brake pad Lining Minimum Thickness
*Front and Rear disc brake pads . . . . 2.0 mm (0.08 in)
I took this from my 98 Z3 Roadster Service Manual, by Bently Publishing. I should apply. When I took my car in for its Inspection II, I was told that the thickness meets minimum requirements as it is when it comes to the US specs.

Hope this helps.
