Question

Hi, I'm hoping to purchase my first BMW, but wasn't sure if it was worth the price. It's a '95 740iL with 140k miles. The dealer's asking price is $9995. Everything seems to be in great condition, but the fact that the original nikasil engine was never replaced and that it is at such a high milage are concerns for me. Does this engine typically last for much longer than this? Also are there common problems that I can check before I buy? I'm on a bit of a budget, and the price is right, but if I need to spend another 10 grand to replace the engine, I'll just go back to looking at new domestics. Any advice would help. Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is a good deal.

The 1990 735i is around 8,000. Like James said, they will go forever, if maintained just the right way. After all, BMW does not make something that won`t last a lifetime.
