buying an 1988 750il

i'm looking for guidance....


i have a chance to buy a 750iL for $2500 USD


here is the add:

"181000 miles. Runs and Drives great. Very dependable. Was driven on highway as commuter vehicle and for sales. $800 set of all season luxuary/performance tires have less than 1000 miles on them. New Control arms, brakes, muffler, alignment, balance, oil change (full syunthetic). Also Has Aftermarket stereo She has a Very powerful V12 engine, Only problem is needs tune-up and has hail damage."


i have done some homework on the car. summury of what i have learned is "its the greatest car u will ever own but if its not maintained it will be a money pit"



this will be my first car if i deside to get it....

Well consider this, a tune-up mainly consist of spark plug and wires.

The spark plugs are 11 dollars each at a dealership so thats 132 dollars, plus the wires which is about 500 dollars. Thats 632 dollars for a "tune up" The upkeep of this car espicaly at those miles will be over 7,500 a year. (guessing)

If your looking for a cheap bimmer you would be better off looking at an older 3 series. I would not recomend this as a first car, I personaly would of killed myself at 16 if I had a car with close to 300 horses.

i also have found a 1988 750iL w/ 68k! i desided agains buing the 181k car but 68k looks realy good to me...it does cost $5500 but it will have to do.

a tune up aint only plugs and wires... pcv, fuel filter, air filter.. all these components are part of a tune..

particle id get the car from what you say now but make sure that you look over everything correctly and with someone that has a knowledge of cars you dont wanna fall victim to a bad sale..
