BMW 735iL automatic gear shift problem

Hey guys

ok so i have a 735iL and lately its found itself a problem where it'll shift through 1st and 2nd gear fine however when i goes to shift into 3rd and 4th its as if it slips or "skips a beat" and wont shift into gear and it'll free rev and just stay in 3rd untill it redlines.... would anyone have any answers as to what could be going on?

Welcome to the Werkz, its always good to have another 7er on board.

If you car has been maintained as per the BMW manual it probably hasn't has the transmission serviced since it rolled of the assembly line. Depending on the mileage and the driving conditions its probably well due for a oil and filter change. Start by getting it to a Auto Transmission specialist shop and get them to extract the oil from the gearbox and torque converter. Make sure they use a genuine BMW filter and the right oil for your trnamission. It should oly cost you around $250 all up, and they might be nice enough to run some diagnostics on it as well. See how you go after that.
