Aftermarket Stereo Head Unit

I own a 1999 BMW 740IL.. Can I install an aftermarket 7" touchscreen head unit, or is it to big?? What is the maximum size head unit I CAN install in its space?? Please help anyone...

It may be a little more complex than most cars given the level of integration of the On Board Computer and the audio system.
