94 740il trans fail code

when i start out in drive the engine revs up for short bit then takes off.. then sometimes the trans fail code pops up on the screen. some say i need to add fluid to the tranny.. but i cant even find a dip stick. so what would be a solution to this problem.

when did you notice this happening? suddenly or over time?
How many miles are on the car?

You wont find a dip stick for the trans oil its all done from underneath.

this has been going on for sometime now but lately it has been getting worse. reverse is hard to get into some time . its got 145k miles

When was the last time you had the boxed serviced?? they do not have lifetime oil as BMW say, what they mean is around 100,000 miles.

So do you have E32 or an E38 ?
