Im looking at nice 88 735I but the owner says the timing chain jump when turning it off and broke 5 rockers and did no more damage than that. If that is all I can fix that but am I
getting into something dificult or are there other problms that I might not know about?
Fell on hard times and sold my 92. Now I looking at getting another 735. Loved the 92 but can only find this88. I dont know who told this person about the damage so Im asking for advice. Is that diagnosis posible to only damage the rockers?
Have you looked at the car? That detail of the damage has me a bit curious. If the owner took the engine apart enough to see that, I'd think it's still apart so anyone can see what's wrong with it.
vwtourbus i have an 1990 735i that i would loooove to sell...i put a motor in it about 5 months ago that has about 33,000 miles on it & im about to put a new transmission in but that car is the devil car to me my dad says im stupid to sell it cause its in immaculate condition but i just have the worst luck with it... are you interested?
What are you asking for it. The person with the 88 is trading for my 89VW Jetta cause it runs and they have no car but the Beemer. They had a BMW mechanic look at it so the timing chain guide broke causing it to jump time. I just need to see how much trouble the guides are to replace.
personaly it would be cheeper to replace the motor the open the can of worms with a broken chain ..for the rockers to break something had to hit..pistons to valves..to rockers..you may get away with replaceing the head ..bent valves valve guides.ect.. for the chain to break ...it may have oil problems.not to mention the crap in the oil system that lead to the failure.
