I have a 1988 BMW 735i, and I am having lots of trouble with the power steering. It is working, but only at half effort. I tried changing the power steering fluid also. every once in a while, it will work fully. I wonder if it could be one of the vaccum hoses or something.
any advice would be helpful.

First I would evacuate the power steering reservoir, replace the filter (providing you have not done this) and see what happens. I believe you also have a Servotronic Electrical Power Steering module in the drivers side front kick panel that gives boost at low speeds. Also fuse 28 (15a) in front power distirbution box works in conjunction withthe Servotronic.
Do not wish to flame anyone but take a trip to Roadfly.com, register, check out the E32 booad, and do a search for hard power steering.
