1998 740il Transmission Maintenance

1998 740il, does the tranmission needs regular maintenance service?
I'm not having any issue's with it, just inquiring if it requires any maintenance like transmission oil changes.

BMW states that their transmissions contain a "lifetime" synthetic fluid that does not need changing over the life of the transmission. However ALL syntehtic fluids break down over time. People have complained of poor transmission issues past the 100,000 miles mark. BavAuto and other places recommend changing the fluid every 50,000 miles or once every two years. I recommend this as well. BavAuto, ECS Tuning and Pelican Parts all sell fluid change kits or the items needed.

Thanks for the info. since you mentioned about not needing a change, how about adding if needed?

It does need a change. What BMW says as what is really required are two differen things. They make more money on replacing your busted transmission then replacing the fluid.
