I am a new to this forum and I was wondering if I could get some help from you guys. I just purchase a older model 1995 BMW and would like to make it cleaner/newer. My question is can I use the headlight and tailight assembly from the newer model BMW, like 2001? if not than to what year?
Also where and what is the best shop manual to get for the BMW, I would love to a lot of work for it. Thanks
Swapping lights from newer model E38's is a common modification, there is nothing too difficult about it beyond swapping them out.
Bentley does have the reputation as being the best for BMW's however they have not published a book for E38 yet. They just released a book for the 5 series which is similar in many respects. Currently the best thing you can find for DIY tech info is the TIS CD from BMW. You can buy a set of CDs on ebay for pretty cheap or find it for download and burn it yourself.
check out www.e38.org for a DIY procedure on light swapping. Also on www.cardomain.com remember seeing quite a few BMWs where owners described how they upgraded their headlights/etc.........good luck
