I just bought a 91' 735i It had a new battery installed and so I had to go through the whole process of waiting an hour before putting in the code to get the radio working. It accepted the code and will tune in stations and play tapes but it just barely audible turned all the way up. It also sound distorted but it's so quiet it's hard to tell. Is there some sort of mute turned on that I don't know how to turn off? I haven't been able to figure it out. Thanks ahead of time.
Antenna hookup is behind the rear drivers side "C" panel (pop off panel and look for a white wire). Amplifier is in the trunk, behidn the vertical carpet panel, drivers side, and just about under the trunk lid bracket.
Is there a way to test the amp to see if it's working? Should I try to replace it? I am guessing that's what it is because you can hear music playing but just barely.
I am sure some shop can test the amp but I am not a audiophile. I gave up on the head unit in my 1988 750 and bought an Alpine CD head ( I know, not OEM) and wired it in bypassing the factiry amplifier and using the internal head unit amplifier. All speakers work and the unit plaays just great
