05 745i smoking/fault codes. Tech help needed. - BMW Forum

I have a 2005 745i that has recently started smoking at idle and under rpm
i have taken it to the Dealer a number of times and the problem has not been fixed. I have a personel code reader that i just hooked up to the car and has come back with the codes

1) P0420- Catalyst Efficiency below threshold
2) P0492- Secondary Air system (bank 2)
3) P0492- Secondary Air System (bank 2) not sure why it comes up twice???

Im new to the BMWs having owned mostly Chevy Corvettes and Camaros dealing with the LSX motors but its never too late to learn something new.

Bank one and two refers to the heads and are monitored and are sensed via Lambda... Maybe these are your issues?

Yes im aware of the banks referring to the heads on the engine but what im confused on is a few guys tried to tell me it has something to do with a sensor on the back passenger side of the intake being the cause of the smoking issue? others have said things about the Vac pump?

has anyone every had/seen/ or personally fixed an issue simular to this?

Have a smell at the tailpipes with motor running... What does it smell of?
